il Destino

Ok, please do not adjust your language settings.  But for some reason I have been thinking in Italian lately.  I don’t really speak Italian, but Spanish (I am fluent) and Italian are very similar.

Destiny is such a strange word, it is defined as “a power that is believed to control what happens in the future”. Wikipedia describes it as “a predetermined future”.  I believe in a destiny and the force of destiny.  We are here for a purpose and we have been placed where we are “on purpose”.

When I was 2 1/2 years old I walked down my street, all alone, passing 8 houses and into the corner market while my mom and aunts watched Days of Our Lives.  Someone opened the door and I walked in, as I had many times before with my Grandma. The owner recognized me and drove me home. Things could have gone really bad given the circumstances.  But I survived that walk to the store.

Yet another time I escaped again and walked behind a car in our neighbor’s driveway as he was backing up. But as fate would have it, there was a dog lying directly behind the car.  As I passed behind the car that was backing out, it hit the dog first. The dog let out a yelp, and as the driver stopped the car he caught a glimpse of me in his rear view mirror. Both the dog and I survived.

Everyone has stories like these, some of us are aware of them and some of us have no idea that we have been spared. Sometimes we are diverted from our mundane day to do a greater work. We are here because we have a destiny and a future.  A predetermined future to live a life with a purpose. So when I think about my day, I try to remember that I am here for a greater purpose.  When things don’t go as planned I want to “go with it” because chances are, God is using me to do something meaningful. Do you have a story about how you were spared or something that changed your life. It was your destiny.
